Four great ways to gain Facebook fans

Last week I published an article about “Why you must invest in a Facebook page instead of profile for your business”. This week I decided to touch on things you can do to gain more fans for your page on Facebook.

1. Use YouTube

YouTube is a great tool to broadcast yourself or your business. The good thing about it is that it’s open to everyone and it gives you the option of posting the video to your Facebook page. There are people who are now famous because of YouTube. You must be creative with your video so that it can catch the attention of your fans and motivate them share it with their friends. You can introduce yourself and your business to the world. Don’t forget to include links to your Facebook page, Twitter page or Website.

2.  Insert your Facebook plug-in on your Blog or website.

If you have a website or blog, installing a Facebook page plug-in can really help you gain more followers. However, people will not like your Facebook page if the content of your website or blog is outdated or not interesting. Creativity is essential.

3. Fliers

Have fliers around your shop, advertising your Facebook page. Put it on your business card or post it on a receipt. You must also make sure that your Facebook page user name is personalised. This makes it easy for people to find you on Facebook and to be able to remember your Facebook page URL.

4. Use Facebook ads.

Facebook ads are also another great way to gain more followers. There is a cost involved and the price depends on your targeting criteria, so you are in control of how much you spend.

Do you have any tips that can help others to gain more fans? If you have a few, why not share them with us?

5 Powerful Social Media Tools

For the past few days I have been researching suitable Social Media applications that will assist me managing clients’ Social Media platforms. I once recommended two Social Media tools a while back. Since change is good, we have also decided to do so and try new web tools. I came across incredible web applications and decided to share some of them with you. You can choose one (or more) that best suits your needs.

Postling

This application allows you to publish your content to the popular social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr, Facebook Photos, and YouTube. It also allows you to schedule your updates to the above mentioned Social Networks.

The exciting part about Postling is that the dashboard makes it easy to keep track of all your responses, it’s very convenient to setup and it’s affordable. They also have a free account; however, it only supports a single account, one brand and one user.

Roost

This platform supports Facebook and Twitter only. It’s a very good web application for those who manage campaigns on a regular basis. The campaign involves scheduling content over a period of time using links, status updates, quotes, questions and photos.

What makes this application unique is that they have a feature called “Circle”. Once you have created your circle and invited your friends. Rooster will alert your Circle members to share your post every time you update your profile, Facebook or Twitter pages. This application is free but only supports three publishing destinations at the moment.

Sendible

This application allows you to publish your content to any of the popular social media platforms, including WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, LinkedIn and Flickr. The good thing about this web application is that it also supports text messaging; email marketing, analytics and multiple users and multiple accounts. See the image below some of its features that Sendible support.

CoTweet

This web application helps small and large businesses to track and analyze conversations across Twitter and Facebook in one place. It also includes a search function for any conversation about your brand on Twitter and Facebook. How is that for a piece of software? This means you are not going to be left out when people say something about you or your brand.

Yoono

Just like TweetDeck, Yoono is also a free web application which is available as a browser extension, desktop app and mobile app. The dashboard gives you the power to have all your Social Networks such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn, YouTube and more in one place.

If Old Spice made ads for Apple…

Ever wondered what it would be like if Old Spice made advertisements for Apple? If you did, you’re about to find out… Whilst browsing through YouTube over the weekend (I do this quite often when I’m bored), I stumbled upon a really cool video. I’m sure we are all well aware of the recent advertisement by Old Spice. You know – the one entitled: “Smell like a man, man.” – with the huge guy with the deep voice on a white horse. It’s very catchy and I found it extremely funny and entertaining. The ad was so popular in the United States last year that the full-time pilot/part-time actor in the ad got a slot on the Oprah Winfrey show and a chance to audition for a new movie. Geekologie decided to make a parody of the Old Spice ad and entitled it: “Phone like a man, man.” I found it pretty hilarious that the Apple video was the complete opposite of the Old Spice ad – from the actors, to the product. On the one hand you have a muscled and bare-chested man on a yacht with diamonds in his hand, and on the other hand you have a pale and chubby “geek” wearing a black turtleneck sweater with a huge cell phone in his hand. I was impressed by the irony. Well, I think I’ve said enough. Check out the video for yourself and see if you like it!

Zakumi is born

On my way to work this morning I heard about him for the first time. Zakumi is the name of the official FIFA mascot for the 20101 Football in SA.

So of course my first “task” of the day was to see what Zakumi’s online presence and profile is like, keeping in mind that he was only “born” last night, 22 September. The name “Zakumi” is a composition of “ZA” standing for South Africa and “kumi”, which translates into “10″ in various languages across Africa.

Doing a Google search, I found Seattle Times to be # 1 in the results for .com and for pages from South Africa, coda.co.za was first. No PPC ads YET for either local or international search.

My next step was to see what www.zakumi.co.za/com looks like. I must say I was disappointed to arrive at FIFA.com. Yes, the homepage, not even a dediciated Zakumi page. They do in fact have a www.fifa.com/zakumi that features news and a slide show of the green leopard. Oh, wait, I see a video as well, let me have a look at it.

Well, it seems that FIFA does not like Mac’s…a pity. The message I get when clicking on the video link:
Sorry, FIFA.com videos cannot be viewed on a Mac OS.

Time to see what Zakumi’s social profile looks like online:

  1. Youtube: 3 videos
  2. Facebook: 6 different profiles / fan pages
  3. Zoopy: nothing yet

So, all in all not bad for a baby that’s only about 12 hours old.
