How to make your website work for you…

You have a website right? Are you achieving the goals you want to meet? Is your website up to standard? Captivating? Exciting? Website competition is tough; it’s just one click away. Let’s look at some of the important things to consider when you are building your website.

The home page

This is the face of your business. A poor home page can destroy the chances of achieving your website’s objectives. On the other hand a good home page will make your website work for you. Keep in mind that internet users scan not read. Exclude irrelevant information from the home page. Make it easy and straight to the point.

The content

Content is the most key factor of your website. Make sure you keep it current and original. Use tools like Google Adwords to optimise your webpage and prioritise your content. Do not make your website complicated. Make it simple for people find information. Include all the important information on your site so that people won’t have to look for something you are offering on a other site. Read more about the importance of the content

Usability

One of the most frustrating things is to wait for a website to load. Flash is fancy refrain from using it on your entire Home page. The quickest thing that your website visitor will do when your site is taking long to load is to hit the back button or close and go to other sites.

Mobile friendly

Tablets PCs and smartphones are the future for internet users. Make sure that your website is mobile friendly and easy to navigate using smartphones and tablet PCs.

Don’t stop innovating

The good thing about the Internet is that people share what works for them and what does not. Be proactive, read more about what new and apply it to your site as well. Use Social Media plug-ins as well. Install twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn sharing buttons.

Tips to improve your online marketing strategy.

People use social media for variety reason. I would like to focus more in people that use blog posts, Tweets, Facebook posts or emails with the purpose of marketing a business. The content in their site, blog or Facebook page must help them engage and maintain their customers. I am going to share few points to be considered in achieving this.

Your site should be simple. Make show that you:

1. Bold important phrases to make them stand out because internet readers like scanning.

2. Keep your paragraph short and straight to the point. The maximum of the paragraph should be 3-4 sentences.

3. Organise your information and break up section using subheading for the reader to be able to scan easily.

4. Keep your sentences very short.

5. Consider using bullets.

6. Text font is also very important, I advice you to use Arial, Veranda or Times New Roman.

7. Check you grammar and spellings

8. Avoid too much punctuation.

9. Do not try to impress readers.

10 Make show that you proofread before posting.

To increase the visibility of you site. The best way to do it is to use Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). SEO is the process of improving the visibility of a website via natural or unpaid ways. Here are ways to improve you website writing through SEO usage.

My first week as an emarketing Intern

Hi there everyone, I just finished my 2nd year of Public Relations Management at CPUT and started my internship at Interactive Concepts this week.
I always thought that my love for my computer and trying to figure stuff out on it, was never going to mean much. From sneaking around on my brother’s computer and finding stuff that should rather not have been found, to now – feeling one with my “lappie”.
The thing is, we are all new to something, and this week, I was new to this whole new world that the internet has opened up – a world of possibilities! I never realised that there are so many opportunities, and not only for businesses that relies on advertising, but on every single product or service. Really, the internet is AMAZING!
I feel sorry for the people who has not yet realised this, ‘coz they, as we say it in Afrikaans: “suig aan die agterste speen”.
Starting this week with my internship, I walked in and was immediately faced with PPC, CPM, ROI, SEO, banners, mailers, skyscrapers, etc. most of which I have never ever heard before! I found myself almost drowning in this pit of online acronyms and strange phrases. Luckily, Japie’s office was not too far and I could easily knock on his door, feeling really stupid and dumb, asking him what PPC stands for, because surely you do not work with cement on the internet??
But as the week progressed, I quickly learned, or found out for myself, how most of this internet and online marketing systems work. I can proudly say that I am better, more equipped and more prepared for whatever obstacle the World Wide Web throws at me, and come what may; I will improve on everything in the coming year!

Big companies and search!

It still amazes me to see how big international companies fail to take search engine optimisation seriously. This week while skyping with a friend of mine in Germany, he told me about his new Ford Galaxy. Of course not having seen one yet, I immediately went to the trusty ol’ Google and typed in Ford Galaxy. Great was my surprise when I did not find any Ford site in the top 20. All sites for reviews, car dealers, car news sites, etc. Having then clicked o one of those I found a model called Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDI.
Okay, now I was going to get directly to a Ford site I thought. Back I went to search and typed in Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDI. And yes, you guessed it…nothing but reviews, online dealerships and news in the top 20.
If anyone knows some-one working at Ford, preferably the marketing / sales department, please can you ask them to comment.
