Facebook tips for your fan page

For many organisations, having a facebook page is a fundamental part of their social media campaign. I have maintained a few facebook business pages and I have noticed that just because an organisation or brand is online, doesn’t mean that they are utilising the social media tool correctly. It is so easy to do something wrong on facebook without even realising the impact of damage that you have caused for that brand. For example, if you do not address a query as soon as possible or correctly, you may end up loosing many fans.

I thought I’d share a few easy, yet helpful tips to increase interaction on your page as well as increase your number of fans.

1. Fans
Once you have successfully set up your business page, you will need fans to interact with. However, this may be difficult if your brand is new and people are unfamiliar with it. Ask your staff, customers, friends and other people who already know you to “like” your page first.

2. Keep your content current and relevant
Update your page on a regular basis (preferably two posts per day) and keep your content relevant. If your organisation specialises in food, don’t talk about engineering.

3. Questions
Asks lots of questions and promote two-way communication. You’ll be surprised to see the response. Give feedback where necessary. Thank people for commenting and posting on your wall. You may even appear in their newsfeed.

4. Photos
Upload lots of photos and create photo albums. Be sure to add descriptions and locations to your albums in order for your fans to know where and when the photos were taken. Ask your fans to share photos on your page. Photos usually receive lots of feedback and impressions.

5. Other platforms
I can’t remember the last time I actually searched for a brand on facebook. I usually find their facebook plugin on their website and just click ‘like’. Integrate your facebook on as many platforms as you can, for example, your website or blog.  Combining your facebook page with other networking tools such as twitter is also a good idea.

6. URL Links
Share useful links to relevant articles or to your website on your facebook page.

7. Industry related groups
Join groups and pages relevant to your brand or organisation. See what your competitors are up to. You can also work together to promote each others pages.

8. Own Up
Get to know your facebook fans well. When you make a mistake, own up to it and correct it immediately. You do not want to loose their trust. Without your fans, your facebook page and brand will not survive.

So there you have it. A few of my favourite tips that have helped me build and maintain lasting relationships with fans and brands. If you have anything to add on or share, please feel free to comment below.
