Exposed!!!

The thing about the internet is that you can be anything and anyone that you want to be and that is a great thing if you are a shy person looking to experience the world in a friendlier way. That can not be true however, for an organisation; you need to be as open and as honest as you can be with your clients. You should see this as an extension of your communication mediums.

I was sent this really interesting screen shot of someone’s Facebook. The guy sends a friend request to a girl and the conversation gets hot and heavy, only to discover that it is his girlfriend all along.

This is the kind of thing that is going to happen to organisations that is not completely honest about their services or their trade. With the way that the internet works and how easily the information can be accessed, it will be easy to see who is the real from the fake.

There are a few things that one needs to keep in mind when using the internet as a portal for communication:

  1. Be as honest as you can be on the internet. With print the information always had a way of coming out and now with the cyber space, the information seems to be more freely available for easier and more public consumption.
  2. Have contact details. This is a very important step in the communication process, if the person is not able to contact you freely, they will contact someone that they are able to contact.
  3. Have a clear call to action, the reader should immediately what is expected of them. A simple and easy message will get the message across and it will make it easier for the reader to come back.
  4. Keep your message relevant, the internet has a much shorter life span for information so getting the information out there is important. Be sure of your facts however. Reporting lies or half truths could lead to being considered an untrustworthy source.

Communication online is easy, as long as you keep in mind that the basics is the foundation for success.

Web 3.0 – Your next best friend

While some of us are just getting used to Web 2.0, the possibility of Web 3.0 is getting closer and closer…

Let’s go through it quickly:

Web 1.0

This was the beginning of the internet or the release of WWW (1991-2003)

Web 2.0

This refers to the stage where internet is now – where social media and social networking got integrated and blogs and other sharing platforms took over.

Web 3.0

This will make the internet more “personal”. I found a good example on HowStuffWorks: when you are planning an evening out and you would like to watch a movie and eat Mexican food, you would search for that separately. But with Web 3.0, all you would have to do is type in "I want to see a funny movie and then eat at a good Mexican restaurant. What are my options?". What makes it even better is that you “the Web 3.0 browser will act like a personal assistant. As you search the Web, the browser learns what you are interested in. The more you use the Web, the more your browser learns about you and the less specific you’ll need to be with your questions. Eventually you might be able to ask your browser open questions like "where should I go for lunch?" Your browser would consult its records of what you like and dislike, take into account your current location and then suggest a list of restaurants.” – Source: HowStuffWorks

So, Web 3.0 will ENGAGE even more than Web 2.0. Soon enough you will be able to talk to the internet as if it was your next best friend.

What is your opinion on Web 3.0?
