facebook advertising

Okay, so now maybe I will start worrying about my personal information on Facebook. They are in the process of developing ad software that will be able to target me according to the details in my profile. So, I guess I can expect ads for mountain bikes, mexican restaurants, Tabasco products, hotel accommodation in jhb, holiday spots in Mozambique…heck, I’ve given away more about myself right here than I have on Facebook.
Mind you, will it be that bad?
So, let’s say I am looking to buy an apartment in Bryanston and I don’t have the energy to search for properties online or speak to countless agents. I will then just go and add something about that in my Facebook profile and sit back and wait for the estate agents who have properties in Bryanstan to start advertising that on my Facebook profile page.
That could work.
I think.
Seeing that I am already married, I trust that the dating agencies will know not to advertise on my page. Same for the guys promoting the music, cars, food and wine that is not to my liking…or am I dreaming ( again?)

the tail is getting longer…

Well as you would have noticed by now our company is currently going through some changes and new additions to the team. For the fear of being upstaged by my colleague Claire in making a début on our blog I have decided to add my voice to the mix. So I am Sandra and had the wonderful privilege of also just recently starting, in Claire’s words, at ‘the most exciting, innovative company ever!’
Last night we had our first official monthly dinner which kicked off the social calendar for the company. Even though some members of the team were adamant that their only desire is just a good old South African steak, the fairer sex in the team decided we needed a more sophisticated abode to kick-off this momentous event. Subsequently we got to enjoy the wonderful cuisine of Saigon in Riviona, and what a treat indeed! The drink of the evening seemed to be the Strawberry Daiquiris and after sharing opinions and views about various topics starting with politics, movies right through to favorite bands we soon realized that we are all very unique in our likes and dislike. Maybe just the thing that makes us gel so well together.
Without wanting to sound psychic - I would like to predict that in the very near future this ‘tail’ will only get longer…. So watch this space!

Always wanted a nice paying job with a stable company? Well now the Directorate: Electronic Information Resources in the government communication department has 2 jobs on offer:
1. Website Content Manager ( deputy director) R 311 358 per annum
2. Website content developer ( 6 month contract) R 155 679 per annum.
So nice to know that the government is now also operating in this space. Whether of course you want to go work for them, in Pretoria, is up to you.
They require the appointee to take charge of www.services.gov.za.
You will also need to work accurately, independently and under PRESSURE ( according to the ad)

So there, don’t say the government does not understand the nature of the internet!

Is Facebook a Safebook?

Hardly a day goes by now that I dont read or hear of the potential identity thieving that I am exposed to on Facebook…hardly a month since I joined.
What, I wonder can really be “stolen” from my profile and what can be done with it?
I dont have ID number, credit card details, home address or shoe size on my profile.
So, what should I be looking out for or be wary of?

It came and went. I blogged about it and then my pc crashed.
Anyway, no great fireworks, especially as all the results were know before hand.
Will I go again? I just can’t say.
